Jamaica's World Junior sprint relay gold medallist Simone Facey was in record breaking form on the weekend at the Arkansas Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Representing Texas A&M, Facey, who won the 100m silver when Jamaica hosted the World Junior in 2002, and her teammate Porscha Lucas took turns breaking their school's women's 60-metre record during the preliminary round and finals.
In the final, it was Facey, an NJCAA champion, claiming second in 7.34 seconds while Lucas was third in 7.40. The race was won by Ebony Floyd in 7.28 seconds.
Earlier in the day, Facey broke the A&M record of 7.48 set by Donyale Canada in 1997 with a clocking of 7.46. In the next heat, Lucas ran 7.43.
Alain Bailey was another Jamaican winner, the Central American and Caribbean and Carifta Games champion leapt 7.64m to capture the men's long jump in a provisional mark.
Another Jamaican, Texas A&M Clora Williams finished second in the women's 200m in 24.18 seconds behind Baylor's Clara Grace (24.17).
Carifta Games gold medallist Peta-Gaye Beckford, jumping unattached, finished fifth in the women's long jump with a leap of 5.91m.
Tresha Henry, also of A&M, did not finish in the women's 60m hurdles.
Holmwood Technical's Petrene Palmer leads Taneisha Davis of Vere and her teammate Amoya Bailey in the girls' 3,000m open at Saturday's Puma/Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association (JAAA) Development Track & Field Meet at Kirkvine Sports Club in Manchester. Palmer won the event in 11: 05.90 ahead of Bailey (11:11.50) and Davis (11:11.80). - Ian Allen
