FORMER champion jockey Emilio 'Bimbo' Rodriquez is set to have a bumper day at Caymanas Park tomorrow afternoon and should boot home no fewer than four winners on the 11-race card, which has been enriched with more than $7.8m worth of carryovers in the Super-6 and Pick-9 bets.
Rodriquez, who has only ridden one winner, NIKITIS last Saturday, since returning to the saddle locally on Boxing Day, has secured six rides on the weekend programme including four ante-post favourites for Super-6 and Pick-9 players hunting the big jackpots on offer.
The celebrated jockey partners IVAN THE TERRIBLE in the first, BLUE MAGIC in the second, CHARMING LUTHER in the third, FIRE D TRAINER in the sixth, ISLA in the ninth and CALABASH BAY in the 10th.
Rodriquez should open the programme with Arnold Rambally's IVAN THE TERRIBLE at 1500 metres but BLUE MAGIC is no sure thing in the second.
IVAN THE TERRIBLE, a full brother to STORMONTHELOOSE, was sent off as a 1-5 favourite to win on debut on New Year's Day.
However, the colt, who had worked brilliantly, 1:14.4 for six furlongs, was slowly into stride and flattened out in the stretch run to finish a length off WESTERN WONDER BOY in a slow 1:16.1.
Trainer Rambally has since fitted IVAN THE TERRIBLE with a visor to keep him focused for his second outing and the colt only needs to reproduce his exercise gallops to run out an easy winner.
Philip Feanny's BLUE MAGIC, the first offspring of SIMPLY MAGIC, won impressively on debut on December 13, zipping a quick 58.4 at 1000 metres straight. He returns treated with lasix and is being touted as a good thing with Rodriquez aboard.
However, Richie Todd's NEGRIL LASS, who also won on a fast track, in a better time, 57.4, on November 4, and was narrowly beaten by Jamaica Two Year Old Stakes winner, RUM TALK, on his next outing, is tipped to upset BLUE MAGIC.
Carryovers at $7.8m
Rodriquez should, however, score aboard CHARMING LUTHER for Richard Azan in the third despite giving away weight to old rival DIESEL, partnered by claiming apprentice, Harriston Lewis.
DIESEL has never beaten the American-bred CHARMING LUTHER, who should get Pick-9 bettors off to a grand start with the carryover at $5.9m.
CHARMING LUTHER made all against DOUBLE BOW at 1100 metres on December 13, proving that he has good speed. Note how he won in 57.1 at 1000 metres straight in October and was beaten into third by MUSICAL MAESTRO's track record 56.1 on his next outing.
Feanny's FIRE D TRAINER should get Super-6 players hunting the $1.9m carryover off to a flying start in the sixth where she should outbattle QUEEN TAMARA, FREE FALL and YOSHI at 1100 metres.
Rodriquez and Feanny should also combine to land the ninth event with the first-timer ISLA, who clocked 1:01.3 in the company of stablemate CLASSY BOY PETE at exercise on Saturday morning.
However, super-fit MY PLEASURE, who lost two tough races in two days, December 30 and January 1, is backed to upstage Rodriquez-ridden CALABASH BAY in the 10th over 1400 metres.
