Mavado not wanted

Police at the Constant Spring Police station are now reporting that deejay Mavado is not wanted in connection with a shooting on Monday evening at a studio as was previously reported.

On Tuesday morning, members of the Constant Spring Police CIB told the STAR that the artiste was being sought for questioning. Mavado was said to be wanted in relation to a shooting incident at the home of Exodus studio owner, Father Romeo. However, yesterday, a member of the CIB office who said he was investigating the matter, said the artiste was not wanted.

Statement needed

"I am handling the matter, and he (Mavado) is not wanted. we got a phone call naming him as a suspect, but that is not credible evidence for him to be wanted. A statement needs to be given and there is none on record," said the officer investigating the matter.

The officer, who asked not to be named, hinted at a past incident between the artiste and lawmen at the station.

In the incident, it is alleged that Mavado was beaten at the station by policemen after he went there to turn himself in following an incident in his community.

The officer said this might be a possible reason for the false information being issued.

"I heard a lot of talk at the station, and I don't know if the person who told you that has some personal disagreement with Mavado, but we are police officers and must not let personal differences influence our work," the officer said.

When contacted yesterday, Superintendent in charge of the St. Andrew North Police Station, Glenford Hudson, said he could not comment on whether or not the artiste was wanted.

"I can't say off hand (if Mavado is wanted).

I would have to check with the investigating officer to say whether or not he is wanted so I cannot say at this time," said Superintendent Hudson.

In relation to the officer's accusation that Mavado is being singled out because of the incident at the station, Supt. Hudson said he could not comment because he did not have enough information on the matter.
