CHAMPION trainer Wayne DaCosta's pair of QUEEN OF MY HEART and WILD AT HEART, who both disappointed backers in recent races, should rebound on tomorrow afternoon's 11-race card.
QUEEN OF MY HEART finished a disappointing third last Saturday behind AITCHEMESBEAGLE and AZULI at 1820 metres, marking the second consecutive race the four-year-old filly was losing as a short-priced favourite.
Since returning off a five-month lay-up in October, QUEEN OF MY HEART put in big efforts against quality horses such as PRINCE OF LAW and PURE MUD but failed to beat easier fields in at least three other races.
Similarly, WILD AT HEART, who reported off a 10-month break in November, after winning on debut last January, has failed to reproduce glowing exercise workouts in two outings.
When last raced on December 23, WILD AT HEART was slowly into stride and finished almost seven lengths seventh behind Philip Feanny's WHITE DIAMOND at 1000 metres straight.
Carryovers at $5.1m
Both QUEEN OF MY HEART and WILD AT HEART face lesser rivals and could very well be bankers on what appears to be a challenging card, which has Pick-9 and Super-Six carryovers worth $5.1m.
QUEEN OF MY HEART was ridden out of character last time out by Wesley Henry, who allowed AITCHEMESBEAGLE and AZULI to steal away instead of trying to prompt the pace.
It was Henry's third attempt aboard the filly and DaCosta has now called for the visiting Andrew Ramgeet, who has been in terrific form and will no doubt be instructed to make every post of the 1700-metre trip a winning one as the line-up lacks pace.
WILD AT HEART got out slow at 1000 metres straight after DaCosta fitted him with a blinkers and figure-eight and had lasix administered for the first time two weeks ago.
The champion trainer has removed both equipment for another crack at the distance, hoping the four-year-old colt reproduces exercise workouts, which saw him keeping pace with stablemates TWENTY NINE, BULLET TRAIN and DIGI N' JIGGY.
With the Pick-9 at $4m and the Super-Six carryover in excess of $754,000, bankers will be in demand as bettors go after both jackpots, which are expected to soar with additional betting.
DONNA MITE in the seventh at 1100 metres, DRAW CARD in the ninth at 1300 metres, SIR KHAN in the 10th at 1820 metres and MAGIC DRAGON in the 1200-metre nightpan are all solid selections.
DONNA MITE, an older half-sister to three-year-old classic contender RUNALDEENO, led for four furlongs when last out in September and returns treated with lasix.
DRAW CARD should beat conditional claimers after running prominently behind BEAT THE DRUM for more than five furlongs whereas SIR KHAN is super-fit and MAGIC DRAGON is better than $240,000 claimers.
