Boys Championships winners Kingston College, (KC) and Holmwood Technical, the girls champions, are among the entries for tomorrow's WATA/Ciclon/JC development meet, the opening event of the 2007 season, at Old Hope Road.
KC's head coach Lennox Graham will be using the meet to measure the progress of his team.
"We are just expecting to see where we are, first competition, 11 weeks out, we are not going in with great expectations," said Graham.
Holmwood's coach Maurice Wilson say they are in a rebuilding process.
"We are in the rebuilding process so we are going to participate and expose the new athletes and have fun," he said.
KC will be joined by Calabar, strong
contender for title honours this year, Wolmer's, Camperdown, Munro and hosts Jamaica College (JC) while Wolmer's, Manchester, Immaculate, St. Andrew, and Alpha will battle Holmwood in the girls
section.
Organised by the Jamaica College Sports Development Committee, the 14th staging of the WATA/CICLON/JC meet will again serve as a qualifying meet for the annual Boys and Girls Athletics Championships, set for March 28-31.
The events to be contested are the 100m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m, and 5000m, while the hurdles events will be 70m, 80m, 100m, and 110m. In the field, there will be long jump, discus, high jump, shot put and pole vault.
The organisers will once again honour an old boy. This year's honouree is Alan Beckford who, according to the release, has contributed immeasurably to the school's tremendous success in track and field and other sports.
