Fishermen remanded

By Analee Bernard, STAR Writer

Black River

Four fishermen charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition appeared in the Black River Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday and were remanded until January 17.

They are Arden Ebanks, 53, of Mitchell Town, Clarendon, Alvin Ashby, 31, Carlington Parchment, 26, and Bryan Parchment 32, of Newell district in St. Elizabeth.

Allegations say about 3 am on December 20, the police, acting on intelligence, went to Great Bay in Treasure Beach where they observed the four men unloading the weapons from a boat named Destiny.

The weapons include eight AK 47 assault rifles, two handguns and 75 rounds of assorted ammunition.

The men were reportedly taking the weapons to a house where they attempted to bury them in the yard. They were surprised by the police and started running, but were cornered and subsequently arrested.

RM Stanley Clarke remanded the four accused men.
