A mob killing occurred on Thursday, in the normally peaceful Jointwood district, in Maggotty, St. Elizabeth.
Dead is Rayon Newsome, a 32-year-old unemployed man of the said district.
The Constabulary Communications Network reports that about 2:30 a.m., a large gathering of family and friends were inside a shop located on the ground floor of a family house, when an altercation developed between two brothers from the family (who were visiting from abroad), and the now deceased Newsome.
The argument escalated, where it is alleged that Newsome used a knife to inflict stab wounds on both brothers. Unidentified persons from the group allegedly held unto Newsome, and carried him to a nearby gully, where he was shot and chopped to death.
"There were about 30 persons there at the time, so the police have not yet ascertained the identities of the persons involved," said CCN liaison officer for the parish, Corporal Sophia Daley.
The Maggotty police are conducting investigations into the incident.
