Lions Club treats elderly and indigent

By Rasbert Turner, STAR Writer

Spanish Town

More than 300 elderly and indigent were treated at the North St. Catherine Lions Club annual indigent treat in Linstead on Sunday.

The Star visited the location and saw residents from Riversdale, Bog Walk, Linstead, Cheesefield and other areas enjoying the scrumptious meals of rice and peas, chicken, pork, fish and other goodies complemented with a serving of cake and juice. Each person also received a gift package.

One senior citizen, Belvedere Johnson, echoed her thanks, "It is a long time that I have been coming here and the club always treat me good, ah really thank them and I hope that it will continue."

President of the club, Barry Amos, said they were happy to give back to the community as the lives of the poor are most important to any charitable organisation.

"We are thankful for fellowship and although we don't have much ourselves it is good that the Lions Club can give back something. It's a good thing," he said.

Amos said club members, through various activities, raised the $315,000 to make this year's treat possible.
