One Third shine at 'Togetherness'

WESTERN BUREAU:

The group One Third con-tinues to prove that it is a force to be reckoned with on the enter-tainment scene.

Sunday's Evening of Family Togetherness, put on by the Church of God and The Saints, at the Montego Bay Community College left no doubt that the promising One Third can only soar.

Young and middle-aged women and even children rushed to the front of the stage in an attempt to grab onto their feet and to touch their hands.

The young men enjoyed every moment of it, and reeled off songs that brought them to fame in the Digicel Rising Stars Competition.

Starting their segment with Lone Star's Amazed (It Just Keeps Getting Better) they delved into Hoobastalk's Reason.

The Chillites' Homely Girl sent the crowd wild, as Miguel Walters and Apheus Johnson performed a duet.

Despite the low turnout at the event it did not deter patrons from enjoying the evening to its fullest.

Brushy One String was also a crowd favourite. Donning his trademark cowboy outfit with replica daggers on his hips, Brushy wooed the audience, as the reputed showman is known to do.

"He is just awesome. His performance was great. What I admired about him most is the fact that he did not sing any of the songs he did on Digicel Rising Stars. He is versatile and Brushy knows no boundary where versatility is concerned," said Laforette Reid, a patron.

A crisp sounding Suzanne Perkins teamed up with her mother on stage to perform the gospel song Hold On. However, for the rest of her show, she hurriedly dashed through the songs and although her vocal quality was good, she came across as being very nervous.

Stevie B, the son of former Blood Fire Posse lead vocalist Paul Blake, was very enrgetic, as he did a number of cover songs. He also performd his original Far Away, which is scheduled to be released in January on the Sold Out Productions label.

Gospel veteran Sister Scully, although not utilising the stage, was a crowd pleaser.

Evangelist Heath, was very comical and had the audience in stitches as he danced, sang and deejayed. The lyrically witty Heath jumped from the stage and danced with a woman before leaving stage and earned a resounding encore.
