BSI looks into wanted man's death by cops

The Bureau of Special Investigations is looking into the death of a wanted man in Santa Cruz in St. Elizabeth and a St Thomas man who were killed in separate incidents by police on Monday.

Dead is Wayne Porter, 42, of Prospect District, who was wanted for murder and Tafari Fisher, 32, of Norris District, Yallahs, St. Thomas.

Reports are that at 7 p.m. on Monday evening, Porter was seen exiting a taxi by a police patrol. During an attempt by the officers to arrest him, Porter pulled a gun from his waistband and pointed it at the officer and was shot.

The 9mm pistol with four cartridges was taken from him. Porter was taken to the Black River Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Meanwhile, the St. Thomas Constabulary Communications Network (CCN) officer reports that at 3:10 a.m. a police party went to Telfer lane where a prowler had been seen.

On entering the residence where the suspect was, he allegedly attacked a police officer with a machete and was shot. He was taken to the Princess Margaret's Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.
