A SHARP workout from the gate last Tuesday morning suggests trainer Rowan Mathie's SHAN FABULOSO will be tough to beat in tomorrow's 1400-metre George Headley Jr. Memorial Cup feature event, one of four trophy races on at Caymanas Park.
Mathie sharpened SHAN FABULOSO last Tuesday morning with a fast 1:00.2 for five furlongs straight, breaking from the gate in her raceday visor.
Bustling lightweight jockey Leo Miller will partner SHAN FABULOSO, who finished down the track when last raced over 2000 metres on October 21.
She had disappointed her backers as a 5-2 favourite in her previous race when outsped by HEZA RANKING at 1500 metres. However, Mathie seemingly has the four-year-old filly at the boil as she has never worked better and should deliver based on the evidence at exercise.
Jackpots at $1.7m
AZULI at 14-1 in the third race followed by 15-1 shot THE MAGICIAN in the eighth smashed all Pick-9 bets on Saturday, forcing a $1m carryover to tomorrow's programme.
One smart Super-6 player came up perfect and waltzed away with $1.15m. The Super-6 is back at its $500,000 minimum payout tomorrow, starting at the sixth event in which JACK DE FREAK is fancied to beat $160,000 claimers at 2000 metres in the Eggie Sutherland Memorial Cup.
JACK DE FREAK finished a strong fifth behind SIR KISSON LAL, STREET FIGHTER and DIGITEC at a mile on November 29, and should outstay his eight rivals at the longer distance.
Both Super-6 and Pick-9 players can look to UGOTTABELIEVE in the seventh, LAW LADY in the eighth and the debutant FELICIDAD in the ninth as key horses.
UGOTTABELIEVE has been put back on lasix by trainer Randolph Scott following encouraging performances in her last three races.
Asked to sprint 1000 metres straight, UGOTTABELIEVE is perfectly drawn at post position eight in the nine-horse field. Last time she contested the distance the four-year-old filly finished a length and a half behind HIGH ROLLER and return winner CELEBRATION TIME.
LAW LADY was outbattled by RICKAYBA when last at the races, but trainer Tensang Chung has refitted her with the visor, which he had taken off that afternoon and she should show her appreciation by landing the eighth at 1000 metres straight.
FELICIDAD, a $1.1m yearling sale buy, has looked well in the mornings, keeping pace with CHARMING LUTHER and is tipped to get off the mark despite facing derby winner SIMPLY MAGIC's first offspring, BLUE MAGIC, at 1000 metres straight.
Close all bets with Richard Azan's MELINDAGATA in the 11th at 1100 metres. She has trained well and should have the beating of her rivals in the event restricted to fillies and mares.
