Tomorrow's round of games in the Wray and Nephew National Premier League has been postponed due to the malaria outbreak.
Although only two of the games were scheduled for infected areas, Dr. Winston Dawes, chairman of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) Medical Committee, said the games were postponed as a precautionary measure.
"We have to try and contain the outbreak and it is something we are reviewing day to day," said Dr. Dawes.
Tomorrow's postponement follows that on Sunday when the Arnett/Boys' Town match and Tivoli/Naggo Head fixture, scheduled for the Tony Spaulding Complex and the Edward Seaga Sports Complex respectively, were called off.
The malaria outbreak was first reported on December 1 in Denham Town which is relatively close to the Edward Seaga Sports Complex, home of Tivoli Gardens; Collie Smith Drive, home of Boys' Town, and Arnett Gardens' Tony Spaulding Sports Complex.
Dr. Dawes said the fewer persons that occupy the infected areas the better. He drew reference to the 1982 polio outbreak in which public events including, sports, were temporarily put off.
There have been 59 reported cases of malaria up to yesterday in Kingston and St. Catherine.
Tomorrow's postponed games:
Village vs Portmore United
Wadadah vs August Town
Harbour View vs Seba
Boys' Town vs Reno
Tivoli vs Arnett
Naggo Head vs Waterhouse
This game was originally postponed because of Waterhouse's participation in the Caribbean Club Championships.
