A bus driver accused of
tampering insurance documents to change the expiration date, was granted bail in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
Maxwell Nelson, 36, of Nor-wood, St. James, was granted $100,000 bail on a charge of
possession of forged document.
Defendant was abroad
In a bail application, defence attorney Dalton Reid told the court his client was abroad when the document was tampered with.
Reid said Nelson had loaned his car to a friend, who, upon realising that the insurance would expire before the accused returned to the island, took it upon himself to change the date on the cover note.
It is alleged that on December 2, police went to the home of the accused and asked to see the
documents for his vehicle. He handed over the documents, including a cover note.
Upon close inspection, it was discovered that the document was forged. A subsequent check with the insurance company confirmed the suspicions.
Nelson is to report to the Mt. Salem police on Tuesdays. He returns to court on January 17.
