Olympic 200m champion Veronica Campbell has decided against competing in next year's indoor season.
"I just think it's wise for me to skip the indoor season and just make sure that when the outdoor season comes again, I am fully recovered," Campbell said on Hitz 92 FM's Sports Grill programme.
Campbell, who was forced to sit out a majority of the last outdoor season because of a leg injury, has decided not to compete indoors in order to recover fully from her injury.
Her manager Claude Bryan said it's the best move.
"What we are doing is just staying on the side of precaution and making sure that when the pure sprinting start again, she would have had adequate rest and therapy to ensure full successful recovery," said Bryan.
Campbell had sustained an injury to her quadriceps while running the 200m in Gateshead, England in June.
During last season's indoor meets, Campbell clocked 7.04 seconds to match the third fastest time in the 60-metres behind Americans Me'Lisa Barber and World 100m champion Lauryn Williams, who both clocked 7.01secs to take 1-2 at the World Indoors in Moscow, Russia. She also ran 22.84 seconds in the 200m to finish as the seventh best performer on the indoor circuit.
She is the fifth best performer of all-time over the 200m behind the likes of former Jamaican sprint queen Merlene Ottey and Russian legend Irina Privalova.
The 2005 World Championships silver medallist from Helsinki in the 100m is aiming to ensure she is fully recovered to tackle the likes of Sherone Simpson, Sanya Richards and Allyson Felix next season.
All four will be chasing gold at the World Championships, which will be hosted in Osaka, Japan from August 25—September 2.
