Cop arrested on corruption charge

Rasbert Turner, Star Writer

Spanish Town

A policeman and an insurance agent are in custody on suspicion of collecting a bribe.

Police say about noon Monday, the constable, a patient at a hospital after suffering a fractured limb, is said to have contacted a motorist he prose-cuted for traffic offences and told him to give him $5,000 and forget about the offence.

It is said that the man went to the investigative arm of the force and reported the matter. A sting operation was set up and when he went to deliver the money, the agent from an insurance company, who was visiting the lawman, went to collect the money and was caught.

Both men were taken into custody and a file sent to the Director of Public Prosecution for his ruling.
