Jamaica must maintain or better their two-goal advantage over Trinidad and Tobago if they are to advance to the CONCACAF Under-20 Final Round next year.
Both countries meet in the second leg of the Caribbean Final Round play-off series tomorrow night at 8:00 at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella, Trinidad. Jamaica won the first leg 2-0 at the Harbour View Mini Stadium in Kingston on Sunday.
Victory, or a draw, tomorrow will put Jamaica one step closer to repeating their qualification to the 2001 FIFA Under-20 World Cup.
If Jamaica maintain their advantage they will be grouped with Costa Rica, St. Kitts and Nevis and hosts Mexico. Panama will host the other four-team group which includes Guatemala, Haiti and the USA.
Panama will host Group A at the Rommel Fernandez Stadium in Panama City from January 17-21 and Mexico host Group B at the Carlos Gonzalez y Gonzalez Stadium in Culiacan, Sinaloa, from February 21-25.
The top two teams from each of these groups will qualify to the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Canada next year.
STARTING TEAM
Jamaica coach Dean Weatherly said he will most likely stick with the starting team from Sunday's match.
"There is good chemistry between them," Weatherly said of his starters.
"The quality is there, the ability is there, is just to get inside of their heads and get them mentally prepared."
Weatherly also said he has been stressing the importance of getting early goals. Jamaica's second goal didn't come until the 75th minute when England-based Joel Grant got his second of the game.
"We have to convert all our chances and get them early," said Weatherly.
"I think playing away they will be under less pressure because sometimes the home crowd can get to you."
The Trinidad and Tobago team left the island yesterday and no one was available for a comment. But coach Brian Williams said after the game: "We have to go back to Trinidad and do our work. At any level, to take away a two-goal deficit is a really tough job."
Jamaica are scheduled to leave the island this morning and return on Friday.
