A lack of adequate pipe water, constant disruption of electricity and an unusable post office are the major problems affecting residents of White Water and the surrounding areas in Spanish Town, St. Catherine.
According to Janet Plummer, president of the White Water Citizens' Association, the major problem of not having a post office can be resolved if they are allowed to renovate the old postal agency. This agency, she said, could benefit communities such as Innswoods, which is in proximity to the White Water area which comprise of Sydenham, Magil Palms, Hartlands, and the proposed Chedwin Gardens which has 400 lots for development.
Renovate office
Plummer, who was speaking at a Jamaica National Rural Development Partnership and Advocacy forum, said that contact has been made with the post and telegraph department and they were given encouraging news that if they can renovate the place, the post office department will ably serve the area with letters.
The parish development committee chairman, Earl Hyde, warned against vandalism and regular break-ins that usually occurred when it was a
postal agency.
With more than 10,000 people now living in the area, it was the the consensus that this practice might change. As a result, a representative of Jamaica National Building Society Foundation, promised to look into the matter with a view of advocating for the work to be done on the building to ease the plight of the residents.
