A strip club that is opened in the days on Portmore's 'Back Road' has caused an outcry among some members of the community.
The Erotic Nightclub, is located on Port Henderson Road more commonly called 'Back Road'. It operates from in the afternoon until late at nights.
According to Wayne, one of the owners of the club, the daytime go-go club was opened six months ago after he and two other friends decided to upgrade from a regular bar to an entertainment venue.
"Normally we had a bar here in the days but we decided that why not give them some entertainment while here," Wayne said.
The decision to provide pleasure for some of Portmore's hedonists is causing concern for other residents.
"I've heard about it because it has been raised in the council meetings. In terms of the club operations, I have asked the police to look into the matter because it's not something we here at the municipality condone," said Portmore Mayor, George Lee.
Wayne has however defended the club's reputation.
"We're not doing anything illegal here. The club has been open all this time and police have come here, looked and have seen that everyone here is an adult. We are not breaking any laws," said Wayne.
The decision to provide daytime 'flesh entertainment' has also drawn the wrath of the church.
"We believe that society is made of both good and evil. But although evil exists, people should not engage themselves or practise things debasing to mankind. We believe there are better forms of entertainment and better ways to make money," said Bishop Delford Davis, Pastor of Power of Faith Ministries in Portmore.
THE WEEKEND STAR visited the club on two occasions to find out about the activities that took place there. The club advertised an 11:00 a.m opening time, but on both occasions, activities did not begin until later in the afternoon. On both visits, there were about six patrons watching while two girls alternated dancing on stage to tunes from Vybz Kartel and several R&B selections. The girls, scantily clad later went nude as they danced suggestively to Ne-yo's Sexy Love. The club had at least two emergency exits and music was barely audible from outside.
A patron in the club was quick to point out he had no problems with the club.
"Bway a di best ting dem could a do because more time yuh deh bout an' yuh waan relieve some stress yuh can jus chill out here," he said.
And, he's not the only one that believes the club is a 'God sent'. According to Frank, a patron who stops by the club on occasions, the opening is a welcomed relief.
"In the (United) States these clubs open 24 hours so it gives flexibility for persons who prefer that form of entertainment but may not be able to go in the nights. I welcome it because you have other forms of entertainment in the day so why can't you have this form of entertainment for those of us who prefer it in the day as well," he said.
However, to some members of the community, the day time club has taken things too far.
