Gunmen kill security guard

Dalton Laing, Star Writer

savanna-la-mar, westmoreland

A security guard, employed to Alpha Security, was killed by gunmen while on duty at the Esso Service Station in Dunbar's River on Sunday night.

He has been identified as 42-year-old Magnus Turner of 58 Dalling Street in Sav-la-Mar.

Turner was reportedly attacked about 8 p.m. while he sat with two female pump attendants.

Police say that the gunmen, one of whom was armed with a .45 pistol approached the guard and shot him in the mouth. Others subsequently opened fire on him after which they relieved Turner of his .38 revolver.

During the killers' escape in the Smithfield area, they were challenged by an off-duty policeman, who engaged the criminals in a shoot-out. The men fled the scene but it is believed that one of the men was wounded.

Turner was pronounced dead at hospital.
