Big NPL clash at Drewsland

Ainsley Walters, Freelance Writer

THIS weekend's round of the Premier League kicks off a day earlier with fourth-place Portmore United aiming to take three points off struggling neighbours Naggo Head at the Spanish Town Prison Oval today.

However, it will be 'Super Sunday' at Drewsland tomorrow when champions Waterhouse host bitter rivals and leaders Harbour View in a top-of-the-table showdown packed with grudges.

Kick-off time is 6 p.m., but Drewsland will be packed to capacity long before leaders Harbour View face-off with Waterhouse, who are a point behind in a see-saw battle atop the National Premier League Standings.

Every Harbour View fan is still upset following last season's dramatic collapse when they blew a 13-point lead and were worn down by Waterhouse in the new first-past-the-post format, which replaced semi-finals and a grand final.

Out to prove that was no fluke, Waterhouse are pressing Harbour View the entire way this season and even led the league two rounds ago before playing to a 1-1 away draw with Reno last Sunday, while Harbour View outclassed Wadadah 3-2 at home.

Ironically, Waterhouse coach Barrington 'Cobra' Gaynor was the man responsible for Harbour View's defensive team last season and he's hoping their shaky back line, which has so far conceded 10 goals, folds under pressure at Drewsland.

"That (their record) tells me they can be scored on," said Gaynor, a former Harbour View wing-back.

"I believe almost every game they play they let in a goal. I hope they'll continue on that trend on Sunday and concede a goal or two," he added.

However, he's expecting a tough game from the consistent leaders.

"It will be a keenly contested, high quality game," he noted.

"Harbour View have been consistent over the years, particularly this season but we have been doing fairly well, haven't given up many goals and have scored our fair share."

Harbour View coach Lenny Hyde admitted it will be a hard task at Drewsland.

"It's gonna be tough over there but we're prepared for it," he said.

"We're going there positive. We play well there and we would like to maintain the lead. We're going there to do that. Our attacking part of the team has been playing well and we'll use that on Sunday," Hyde promised.

Waterhouse will be without experienced midfielder Irvino English, who's out on card accumulation and will be replaced by hardman Craig 'Warlord' White.
