Jamaica's Young Reggae Boyz made a bright start to their Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Under-20 World Cup qualifying series in Haiti after dispatching the Netherland Antilles 2-0 yesterday.
.Ricardo Wilson (21st minute) and Nicholas Beckett (71st) scored the goals.
Dr. Dean Weatherly, Jamaica's coach, said: "We looked a little disjointed at times but that is the first-game jitters. After we settled down, we gave a good account of ourselves and a win is a win," said Dr. Weatherly.
"It is good for us to win the first game in a tournament like this. We have come and put our best foot forward and shown the competitors that we are here to make a statement," said Dr. Weatherly, in response to his team's performance.
In the day's other game, Haiti destroyed Bermuda in an 11-1 affair to lead the Group on goal difference.
The Jamaicans are set to take on Bermuda in their next match tomorrow at 4 p.m. local time.
"We don't know much about Bermuda but we hope we can repeat or do better than that," Dr. Weatherly said, responding to the result of the Haitian game.
"Everyone will be looking forward to the clash between ourselves and Haiti," Dr. Weatherly added, looking even further ahead.
