Eltham High and Jamaica College (JC) will contest this year's final of the ISSA/Pepsi schoolboy Walker Cup KO after semi-final wins over Calabar and Charlie Smith respectively, yesterday.
Etham, who are reaching the finals for the first time in their history, stunned defending Manning champions Calabar in a five-goal thriller 3-2, while JC defeated Charlie Smith 4-2 on penalties, following a 0-0 regulation and extra-time finish.
In the curtain raiser, Dwayne Hunter (13th, 45th minutes) hit a brace and Tamoy Sibbles (40th) added another to carry Eltham to a stunning 3-0 led at the half-time.
Hunter, opened the scoring then headed home a Tremaine Stewart free-kick. Sibbles doubled Eltham's lead with a spectacular 25-yard shot that went like a rocket past goalkeeper Curtis Chickory.
On the stroke of half-time, Hunter sank Calabar further when he headed home a corner kick from Stewart to send the St. Catherine-based school's fans into wild celebrations.
However, the Red Hills Road-based Calabar came out in the second period firing on all cylinders and quickly pulled one back in the 52nd minute when Marlon Smith headed home a left-sided cross from Leo Campbell.
Three minutes later, Ramone Palmer curled in a beautiful cross to give his team a glimmer of hope.
"I am really happy for the victory today," Eltham's coach Gregory Allen said. "I believe the guys played well. We came out in the first half very positive and we got three goals. " However, in the second half we gave up two quick goals, but three goals was good enough. I am really pleased with that."
When contacted for a comment after the game, Calabar officials said coach David Hunt would not talk to the media.
In the day's other game, 19-time champions JC, defeated Charlie Smith 4-2 on penalty kicks after both teams had played to a 0-0 draw at full and extra-time. Marc Robinson, Jair Gooden, Kamal Bedward and Dewayne Williams all scored for JC, while Dennis McKenley and Gillian Pusey got the goals for Charlie Smith.
