Girl vanishes after school

Francine Black, Staff Reporter

ORGILLE

The Mavis Bank police in St. Andrew have launched an investigation to find a 13-year-old girl who disappeared while walking home from school last Wednesday.

Missing is Camona Orgille, also known as Ranna-Kay, who is a student of the Mavis Bank High School.

Joan Massop, a relative with whom Camona was staying, said her disappearance was strange as it occurred while she was near home and while she was in a telephone conversation with her cousin.

"She went to school as usual, where they were having Jamaica Day," she said.

At minutes to 3 p.m. Orgille began her journey home while talking on the phone to her cousin. She had been walking with a friend earlier but when they got close to the Mavis Bank Coffee Factory they parted ways.

"About 7 to 10 minutes after, he (cousin) heard her scream on the phone and the phone went out. He called three times afterwards but didn't get a response. He then called the police who went through the area but did not see her. We haven't seen or heard from her since," Massop said.

She said the family was told that an unfamiliar white car had passed quickly through the area while Camona and her friend were walking. Massop said the child was close to someone's home when she disappeared and the lady who lives there said she heard a scream but did not pay the noise any mind.

Massop also indicated that Camona had seemed somewhat afraid to go the rest of the way home by herself when she was separating from her friend. She said her cousin had heard her ask her friend to follow her home but she refused.

Her family, who is very worried and have had people in nearby districts looking for Camona, said the child would not run away or go off without telling them. "She's a nice girl, she nuh gone home wid anybody, mi sure a dat," Massop said.

"It's really hard on the family. She's my only daughter," Camona's father, David Orgille, told THE STAR.

They say they do not believe Camona, who is really from West Phalia, a neighbouring com-munity, is in the Mavis Bank area because someone would have seen her by now.

Officers at the Mavis Bank Police Station confirmed that they received a report about the child's disappearance but they say they have found nothing yet that can lead them to find her.

When Camona disappeared she was wearing a red blouse, blue jeans pants and red slippers.

Anyone knowing her where-abouts or who has seen her is being asked to contact the Mavis Bank police at 977-8004, the nearest police station or relatives at 414- 6803, 477-9717, 858-2246 or 977-8175.
