A motorist who is facing an attempted murder charge after he was accused of using his motor car to hit down a policeman who signalled him to stop following a traffic breach was remanded in the Old Harbour RM Court on Friday.
He is Leonard Christie, 30, a taxi operator of Old Harbour, St. Catherine.
The court learnt that about noon on Wednesday October 4, a special corporal was on traffic enforcement duties in Old Harbour, when he saw Christie driving in a careless manner and signalled him to stop.
The court heard that instead of stopping Christie accelerated, hit down the lawman, and was about to run over him when he was rescued by a soldier.
Christie allegedly tried to drive away but was cornered with the assistance of police personnel who came on the scene. Christie was subsequently charged by Corporal Debbie Rhoden of the Old Harbour Police Station. His Toyota Corolla car is still in the police custody. He returns to court on October 27.
