Six die on Clarendon, St Bess roads

Six people were killed in crashes in Clarendon and St. Elizabeth between Sunday night and Monday morning.

Five people were killed while three people were injured in a collision along the Osbourne Store main road in Clarendon, yesterday morning.

Dead are James Stanley of Reading, St. James; Dadrian Patterson, 18, of East Kirkland Heights, St. Andrew; Lola Dwyer and Andel Smith of Spanish Town, St. Catherine and an unidentified woman.

Injured are Dionette Dwyer-Chin of Spanish Town, Paul McBean and Jermaine McBean both of Glen Drive, Kingston.

According to police reports, at about 8:10 a.m. yesterday, Stanley was driving a silver Toyota Corolla registered 1523 DU in an easterly direction along the Osbourne Store main road when he proceeded to overtake a line of traffic and collided with a white Nissan Vanette registered 8716 BT.

The Corolla reportedly caught afire following the collision. But residents extinguished the blaze and were able to pull the bodies from the wreckage. The fire brigade arrived soon after to ensure that no more fires occurred.

The injured persons were taken to the May Pen Hospital where five of the eight were pronounced dead and three admitted in critical condition.

The Four Paths police are investigating.

On Sunday evening at 4:45 p.m., a motorist was killed and two other persons were injured in a car crash along Alpart main road in St. Elizabeth.

Dead is Kemar Smythe, 22, otherwise called Juggo, while injured are Damion Swaby 24, and Kimani Burton, 17, all of Gutters district in St. Elizabeth.

According to the CCN liaison officer for St. Elizabeth, at 4:45 p.m., Swaby and Burton were passengers in a Honda Accord motor car registered 1261 BL, driven by Smythe.

They were heading towards Nain when, on reaching a section of the Alpart main road, the driver lost control of the vehicle which overturned. All three sustained injuries and were taken to the Mandeville Hospital where Smythe was pronounced dead and Swaby and Burton admitted.

The Nain Police are investigating.
