Scenes from Temptation at Students Union, University of the West Indies, Mona on Friday, October 13. - Nathaniel Stewart photos/
"Temptation" was tempting - in the last few minutes, that is.
If you've ever been to a party, then you know what the party, held at the UWI Students' Union on Friday night was like: girls grinding on their male companion's pelvis, some males standing alone and drinking and some females scattered across the venue sitting on make-shift seats.
Though the party flowed with a certain 'sameness', the juggling was good and had patrons moving all night long. The party, which was advertised as a soca party didn't adhere to that and catered for reggae, dancehall and rock lovers.
Some patrons who had been sitting seemingly bored or tired, shot from their seats upon hearing Tony Matterhorn's Dutty Wine, Kartel's Tic-Toc and Aidonia's Bookam.
Then when Sizzla hit the stage some time around 2:30 a.m. with Big Long Gun, Pump Up Har, Praise Ye Jah among others, the crowd went wild.
Sizzla, also didn't waste any time letting the audience know some of his views on education, ("education important, unnuh fi get unnuh education"), homosexuality and sponsorship. In a song of sorts, he sang "B—y bwoy neva sponsah di show, so how dem fi cancel di show!"
The crowd responded with as much energy as Sizzla put out into his performance. Then by 3 a.m. when Sizzla had passed the mic to a fresh act from his camp, it was time for the show to end, and patrons quickly made their way home.
Lovely lasses all in a row, how does the party go? Apparently not so engaging.
