A community bakery with regional sights has been making dough for 20 years.
Rights Bakery, which is owned by Winston and Blossom Wright, serves the Portmore community, producing quality breads and pastries.
Winston, said his wife who is the manager of the company, focuses on healthy products which all exclude animal and pork fat. They also make a number of whole wheat breads and bullas for the health conscious.
The company, in its effort to reach all markets, produces a cost-efficient one-pound bread for customers who are watching their pocket.
Additionally, they offer a wide array of juices, milk and water to compliment the baked products, something Mr. Wright said prevents the customer from going too far to get what they want.
Their products are distributed in 44 supermarkets across the island including locations such as Falmouth, Montego Bay, Savana-la-Mar and Old Harbour.
The couple, who have been married for 35 years, decided to open their business at its location in Bayside, Portmore, so that if for whatever reason, the community got cut off from Kingston, it could be self-sufficient.
The couple have eight children. Mrs. Wright has a background in accounting and baking and worked in the finance and production sector before going into the business. Mr. Wright is trained in mechanical and industrial engineering.
"Our growth is because of the community," Mr. Wright said and with other larger bakeries like Captain's Bakery moving into the developing community, they have to adjust.
"Competition will always be there," he said.
However, they attempt to keep a close relationship with their customers. "The customer should have a direct line to the owners," he said, while pointing out that they should feel that whatever problems they encounter will be dealt with at the top.
There are plans to expand the bakery with other locations across the island and eventually, within the Caribbean-based on a five-year-plan.
