Mona, Campion split wins in schoolgirl netball

By Carolyn Johnson, Freelance Writer

Hosts Mona High beat Campion High 22-18 in senior action of the ISSA/Digicel Urban Netball Competition yesterday, but their juniors lost 14-10 to the visitors.

Though Campion started their junior match with a bang, the team had some difficulties in the second half when their shooters started losing accuracy and Mona took full advantage of this. Mona could not keep on the pressure though and Campion began showing spurts of excellence particularly when they played with smooth passes through the centre circle.

After the game, a satisfied Eulalee Whitney, coach of Campion, told STAR Sports her team played to their plan. The plan she said was simple, "go forward for passes, stop, look, and it worked."

In the senior match the opposite proved true. Mona dominated from early and kept their lead. At the end of the first half they led Campion 8-2. Campion, however, refused to be beaten easily and almost took over the third quarter. But this in the end was not enough to give them the game.
