The pain of losing Shaneal Raffington still lingers

As part of the hunt for child killers, today THE STAR continues its series geared towards informing the public about the unsolved murders.

A reward totalling $100,000 is being offered for the arrest and charge of person or persons responsible for the death of our children.

Call Crime Stop toll free at 311. Full confidentiality will be maintained.

It's been more than a year since Sherine Fraser's daughter Shaneal Raffington, lost her life to a gunman's bullet.

Although someone has been arrested and charged for her daughter's death, Fraser says the pain of losing her child will never go away.

Not doing well

"I'm not doing well because each time I remember, there are times when I break down and cry. Even today(yesterday) I was watching something on t.v. and I just remember it (her daughter's death) but I managed to cope today," she said.

Fraser's daughter, Shaneal was a student of the Shortwood Practising and Junior High School. She died on July 18 last year at the University Hospital of the West Indies after being shot by a gunman.

Reports are that shortly after 8:00 p.m. the previous day, Fraser and her two children were walking up Grants Pen Avenue when, on reaching an area where several vehicles were parked, two gunmen ran from behind a truck and began firing indiscriminately.

One of the bullets pierced Shaneal's head. "I'm trying to keep strong but it's hard. Right now I wouldn't know what to tell one of the other mothers because we are going through the same thing. It's hard to know you have lost a child that way," she said.

"I know how they feel because I'm in the same situation. I got some counselling but trust me, I could use some more because I really feel it. I really do," she added.
