Dancehall artiste Shawn Edwards, more popularly known as 'School Boy' says he is living in fear because members of the police force have been targeting him.

"Right yah now mi a live inna fear, cause dem sen death threat to mi. Mi all meet wid mussy di deputy commissioner an him call ova deh (Spanish Town Police Station) an dem seh dem nuh have nutt'n fi do wid mi," he said.

Schoolboy felt pressed to go through his lawyer, Andrew A. Irving, to send a letter to the Office of the Commissioner of Police. The letter read: "I act for and on behalf of Mr. Shawn Edwards who instructs me that he has received several death threats from officers attached to the Spanish Town Police Station who are alleging that he knows the person(s) who were responsible for the killing of a police officer in De La Vega City in the parish of Saint Catherine.

"My client denies such allegations and in fact was detained and questioned in June 2006 for about two weeks at the Spanish Town Police Station before he was released after a habeas corpus application was filed.

"I hereby request your intervention in this matter and request that you order an investigation into this matter. My client is fearing for his life."

School Boy says he also submitted a complaint in writing to the Police Complaints Division, 12 Ocean Boulevard, Kingston Mall on September 11, 2006.

When contacted, Detective Sergeant Fitz Richards, acting divisional detective inspector at the Spanish Town Police Station said he knew nothing of School Boy being wanted by the police.

"If he is wanted that must be recent, because I spoke to him just a few weeks ago. Yes, It was on that (recent police murder in De La Vega City) matter," he said.

And as it relates to the allegations being made by School Boy about being threatened by members of the police force there, Detective Richards says, "I know nothing of that."

Although Detective Richards was hesitant to comment on the ongoing investigation into the policeman's murder, another source at the Spanish Town Police Station said: "School Boy continually associates himself with criminal entities, and if he really is clueless to the activities of his friends, then he should wise up before it is too late for him."

School Boy says he is not surprised at the information that the police have given, as he maintains that they are somehow trying to set him up.

"Dem a try put me in a position, cause tru a De La Vega an a bad man run dem place deh, an tru mi a artiste, di respect deh deh as a young artiste, but since di police a pre mi dem way deh, mi a guh jus move from di community cause mi cyan a do music an mi name a call up inna dem ting deh. Because a dat mi cyan get fi focus properly pon mi music," School Boy said.

School Boy, who currently has a hot single, Whe Di Belly Deh, is currently signed to P and L Record Label and is already in line to release an album with Sony Records.
