A 22-year-old woman who told her boss that thieves had broken into the bar where she worked and stole money amounting to $23,750 pleaded guilty to larceny when she appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
It was outlined in court that on September 2, Kacia Richards reported to her boss that the bar was broken into and the money stolen. A report was made to the police and an investigation was launched.
plan to repay money
Constable Jimmy Barnett of the Spanish Town CIB told RM Lorna Gayle that after investigations were conducted, the accused was charged. When questioned, she told them that she took the money but planned to repay it.
In court, Richards first pleaded not guilty but changed her plea after she was told that she would be remanded. She admitted to the court that she has paid $11,000 to the complainant already and will be paying $15,000.00 more. She was allowed to pay over the money and given until October 31 to make full restitution to the complainant.
The police added that there was only a crack to a glass door to the property and that no one else could have gone into the building but Richards.
