PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC)
Jamaica, paced by two goals from star player Venicia Reid, whipped Haiti 3-0 in their Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Women's Final Round Group B match yesterday.
Reid struck goals on either side of the half and Shakira Duncan finished the scoring with a late effort at the Larry Gomes Stadium.
The result gave Jamaica maximum points from their two games and ensured them of a spot in the Women's CONCACAF Gold Cup later this year in the United States of America.
Trinidad and Tobago were facing the Dominican Republic in the late game yesterday to decide Group A.
Reid sent the Reggae Girlz ahead after 27 minutes with a tame shot that the Haitian goalkeeper should have held.
Reid scored again three minutes after the break when she met a Stacy-Ann Johnson freekick and scored from close range.
Huge 7-0 winners over Bermuda in their opening match on Wednesday, the Jamaicans then wrapped up their series with another shut-out when Duncan scored from close range in the 89th minute.
Jamaica now advance to the 2006 Women's Gold Cup in the U.S.A. in November in which the hosts, Canada, Mexico and Panama have already booked their spots in the six-team tournament.
The Women's Gold Cup will crown the CONCACAF champions and will also qualify two nations to the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup in China.
The third-place finishers from the CONCACAF event will face Japan from the Asia Football Confederation in a home-and-away play-off for the final berth to the FIFA tournament.
