The Lions Club of North St. Catherine has helped ease the crowding at the Guys Hill Primary School in St. Catherine.

The group made official their donation of a new classroom built at a cost of $1.25 million in a ceremony at the school on Thursday.

Members of the school community and the Lions Club were in attendance.

President of the club, Barry Amos, said that the building of the classroom came as a result of the club observing the lack of space for several students. He said that after having sought approval from the Ministry of Education, that it was a dream come true for the Lions Club to assist.

Principal of the school, Joyce Tennant Stewart, said that the school really appreciated the gesture. She lauded past president Roy Passley, whom she said was instrumental in getting the project on the way.

"The school was built more than 50 years ago to house under 200 students, now we have more than 500 so it's a very good gesture and we thank the Lions Club for their spirit of volunteerism," she said.

School teacher Nadine Hyde, said that the classroom can house fifty five students comfortably which makes teaching much easier.

Students of the school performed a few songs and promised to take care of the new classroom.
