THE EDITOR, Sir:
Certain categories of workers should know that their jobs are essential services by law and there should be no strike if it is a question of more pay. They must take into consideration the ability of the employer to pay. In our case the employer is the poor Jamaican taxpayer, not the U.S.A./U.K. etc.
In our poor state we should, by law, make it illegal for those to go on any form of strike or threat of strike. It should be seen as intimidation from these workers. We appreciate them to be so essential. If we could afford it we would pay them what they deserved.
These workers are police of all ranks, firemen, doctors, nurses, and teachers of all ranks.
We hold nothing against anyone, however, this is our country and we want it to be run in a civilised manner. We offer no sympathy to those saying they are fighting against Government, neither do we agree with those generous politicians who are promising to pay workers more money under their regime. This is saying taxpayers beware, let us tell the truth to people. Peace and love.
May Jesus bless us.
