DNA evidence pins man to rape

Neville Barnes is in deep trouble after DNA evidence taken from him earlier this year pinned him to a rape which was committed in 2002.

Barnes, otherwise called 'Country' of a Corporate Area address, was remanded in custody until September 19 when the case will again be mentioned. He is facing charges of rape and burglary.

Allegations before the courts are that on February 1, 2002, the complainant was at home about 2:30 a.m., when a man armed with a knife broke into her house and raped her. Another man was held in connection with the rape but he was released because the DNA failed to match.

Barnes was held earlier this year and a subsequent DNA test pinned him to the incident. The matter was transferred to Court six for a preliminary enquiry on the above mentioned date.
