Kemar Madden's lack of a job may have been the factor that pushed him to steal three aerosol sprays from Woolworth.
Madden, 19, pleaded guilty to the simple larceny charge when he appeared before RM Judith Pusey in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court. Madden, who is of a Bread Lane address, is accused of entering the store and hiding the three bottles of perfume in his brief.
According to court files, on August 2 about 9 a.m., Madden entered the store and went to the cosmetics section.
The security guard reportedly observed him picking up the three containers and going into an empty aisle. He then allegedly lifted his shirt and put the perfumes in his brief.
security guards called
The security guard then alerted other security officers and asked for assistance. They then went to the exit and approached madden as he attempted to leave the premises. He reportedly passed the cashier without paying and was stopped by the security guards.
The guards asked him for the items and he complied. The police were called and he was arrested and charged.
When he appeared before RM Pusey, Madden told the court that he does not have a job and that he lives alone.
A social enquiry report was ordered and he is to return to court on August 29, when he will be sentenced.
