Regional cricket giants Guyana defeated minnows Grenada by six wickets last night to advance to Sunday's final of the first Stanford 20/20 tournament in St. John's, Antigua.

The hero for Guyana was legspinner Mahendra Naga-mootoo who bagged five for 15 in four overs to restrict Grenada after they had got off to a flying start.

Andre Fletcher hit an even 50 and Clevroy Antoine 30 as Grenada looked to be laying the foundation for a score well past 200. The two had an opening stand of 86 in under 10 overs The innings, however, went into decline after they were separated as man of the match Nagamootoo destroyed the middle order. Captain Rawl Lewis made 36 for Grenada.

Opener Lennox Cush, with an attacking 49, laid the foundation for Guyana's victory. He was well supported by Narsingh Deonarine who was unbeaten on 23 and Imran Khan who made 21 not out. Grenada's best bowler was Dennis George with two for 15.

Nagamootoo pocketed US$25,000 for being named man of the match, while Cush received US$10,000 for play of the game, a towering six into the stands.

Guyana, who are already guaranteed US$500,000 for reaching the final, will play the winners of this evening's second semi-final between surprise team Nevis and Trinidad and Tobago.

Scores:

GRENADA 158 for eight off 20 overs (Andre Fletcher 50, Rawl Lewis 36, Clevroy Antoine 30; Mahendra Nagamootoo 5-15).

GUYANA 160 for four off 18.2 overs (Lennox Cush 49, Narsingh Deonarine 23 not out, Imran Khan 21 not out; Dennis George 2-15).
