Jamaican athletes MauriceWignall, Novlene Williams and Trecia Smith registered wins yesterday at the GE Money Grand Prix in Helsinki.
Wignall outlasted the American pair of David Oliver and Aubrey Herring to win the men's 110m hurdles in 13.26 seconds. Oliver was second in 13.33 and Herring third in 13.40.
Williams ran to victory in 51.02 seconds in the 400m as she was closely followed by Senegal's Amy Mbacke (51.24) and Moushaumi Robinson of the U.S. (51.71).
Smith's Winning leap
Smith leapt 15.05m, in the triple jump, way ahead of her closest rivals. Sudan's Yamile Aldama was second with 14.61m and Anastasiya Zhuravleva of Uzbekistan was third with a leap of 14.33m.
James Beckford was third in the long jump (7.99m) which was won by Ignisious Gaisah of Ghana (8.32). Godfrey Mokoena of South Africa finished second with a jump of 8.22m.
Dean Griffiths was another Jamaican top-three finisher as he was second in the 400m hurdles in 49.10 seconds. Kenneth Ferguson of the U.S.A. won in 48.84.
Sprinter Steve Mullings was fourth in the 100m in 10.36 seconds. Nigeria's Deji Aliu won in 10.28 seconds.
