A 19-YEAR-OLD girl accused of chopping someone, allegedly because she was not satisfied with the crab she was sold, was remanded when she appeared before Resident Magistrate Georgianna Frazer on Thursday to answer to an unlawful wounding charge.
Nicole Samuels, otherwise called Shaka, of a Smith Lane address, pleaded 'guilty with explanation' when she appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.
The allegations are that on May 18, the complainant was selling crab along Sutton Street when the accused appeared and requested a $50 crab. It is reported that when the complainant began serving Samuels, she said, "Mi nuh want dat fi mi money", behaved in a boisterous manner, and left.
The court further heard that the accused returned to the spot and attacked the complainant but they were pulled apart. She is accused of returning again at about 7:00 p.m. while the complainant was serving someone else and reportedly put her hand in the pot. The complainant is said to have used a spoon to hit her and a fight developed. Samuels is accused of using a machete to chop the complainant wounding the right side of her lower back.
When the two appeared in court, Samuels told RM Frazer that they had been wrestling and that it was the complainant who in fact had the machete. She says the machete fell and the complainant ran to get another weapon. The complainant also told the court that she had been threatened by Samuels' brother. In response, Samuels told RM Frazer, "Your honour, fi har man did threaten mi."
Samuels is to return to court on July 28 and RM Frazer ordered that a social enquiry be carried out.
