Welder and higgler killed in separate incidents

A WELDER WAS shot and a higgler stabbed to death in separate incidents in Western Jamaica, yesterday morning.

The higgler, 26, of Montego Bay, St. James, was stabbed to death during a dispute in Knox Wood District in St. Elizabeth, while the welder, 41, was shot dead by a gunman at his home in Three Miles River, Westmoreland.

According to reports from the St. Elizabeth Constabulary Communications Network (CCN) liaison officer, at 9:10 a.m. Nardam Reid went to visit a female friend in the community when he had a dispute with two brothers over a cellular phone. The dispute escalated into a fight during which the men used knives to inflict wounds to each other.

They were subsequently taken to hospital where Reid was pronounced dead and one of the brothers treated and released into police custody. The Lacovia police who are investigating are seeking the other brother known as 'Peng' for questioning in connection with the incident.

Earlier in the morning, Paul Buckland was at home when he heard strange sounds outside. He went to investigate and was shot by one of three men armed with guns. The police were summoned and he was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Sav-La-Mar police are investigating.
