Elegant and Stylish 'Osmosis'

BY TEINO EVANS, Staff Reporter

IT WAS AN elegant and stylish affair mixed with the lustful dancing by females on the dance floor last Saturday night when the 'Osmosis' ultra all-inclusive party was held at the Senior Common Room at the University of the West Indies, Mona.

The spacious venue was delightfully littered with decorations, from pepper lights, glittering balls hanging from above and was laden with food booths and bars for maximum convenience.

Patrons could have the pick of their choice of food to eat, as booths like Dynasty Jade Restaurant, Jerk and Curry Station, Ribkage, Cuddy'z, Whitebones (serving soups) and Gourmet To Go (serving Shrimp in every form) proved more than a bellyfull.

Completed with at least three different bar areas, spacious grounds to walk about and lyme and a dance floor set up in front of the selectors' booth, what more could be desired? Well, only the vibes on the dance floor would need to get going, as patrons were more caught up in all the socialising and nibbling in the early parts.

This atmosphere would, however, change almost drastically when the selectors of Calico International, at around 12 mid night. flipped the script, moving from world music to some of dancehall's biggest hits of the nineties.

Beenie Man warned, 'I goin tek mi chalk an mark up yuh blackboard', while some of the females present could easily be compared to Bounty Killer's Benz And Bimmer. Other big tunes like Simpleton's Quarter To Twelve, Sizzla's Karate and Elephant Man's On Line and Log On were instrumental in drawing patrons to the dance area as with the three latter songs, the stage was set to shake up and wine up.

As the wee hours of the morning beckoned, there was hardly any space on the dance area or its immediate environs as the jam-packed session had now gone into overdrive.

With the likes of Coppershot, Renaissance and other selectors continuing to keep the vibe and energy high, patrons worked up quite a sweat, especially the females who were only too eager to part the crowd and show that they didn't have to Tuk In Yuh Belly, but knew how to Bun Him and do the Stookie.

Patrons showed no signs of tiring or even being the least bit concerned that the dawning of a new day was near, as they concentrated on the wining and gyrating and the overwhelmingly exciting time that they were having on the dance floor.
