Serving up a 'sexual' treat

BARTENDERS COME UP with the weirdest names for their mixed drink specials and especially in light of the belief that 'sex sells,' many of these mixed drink specials have earned the undivided attention and taste buds of patrons.

'Sex On The Beach', 'Amb Viagra', 'Dirty Banana', 'Fatal Attraction', 'Tear Drawz' and 'Bill Back' are just a few of the names that have been served up at those parties and all-inclusive events.

One bartender, Neville, attending to patrons at a recent party in New Kingston described to THE STAR a couple of the mixes that he served up.

"That was a 'screw driver' drink, which is a mix of vodka and orange juice. Then there was a 'pimp juice', which is a blend of fruit juices and Appleton and the 'sex on the beach' drink which is quite popular. It has a reddish/pink colour and it contains a mix of coconut rum and some fruit juices," he said.

For many patrons the lure of the mixed drinks comes not so much from the taste or the effect it has on them but from the exotic names they carry.

"There is a new drink called the 'Dutty Wuk' and it's a blue drink and I had it when I went to a party called 'Dutty Wine' at Curphey Place," said Davia, a regular party patron. "They mixed it with hypnotic and I don't know what else dem put in there. All mi know it well strong and after my second one I was gone," she said.

She says when she hears the name of the mixed drinks "something well strong comes to mind and I wouldn't try it unless under the right circumstances," Davia said. "Like I went to Cuddy'z and had a drink called 'Ball Out Orgasm'. It's a mix of rum cream and other stuff and that wasn't bad, but I guess these drinks are suppose to be a turn on. That's the whole appeal because nobody nah guh for nuh old drink wid a boring name."

"We prefer to go for something exciting and also, just the thought of having the mystery of tasting it and finding out the different liquors that make up the drink is a pull factor."

As Davia weighs the comparisons in her mind aloud, "Mmmm, to have a 'Ball Out Orgasm' or a simple rum and Pepsi?" The choice of most if not all young female patrons was made. "I think I'd want to experience the 'Orgasm'!"

Sue, a university student, says, "Mi nuh really know nutt'n bout liquor, mi jus drink it when mi get it."

According to her, she usually orders mixed drinks based on the names, "and most times they have something to do with sex, suh like, last week Monday mi guh Jamaica Grande an mi tell di bartenda fi gi mi a drink an put one 'Anaconda an a Spyda' (something she made up) inna it an him seh a wah dat, an mi seh mi jus want something fi sting mi."

Clearly, just the very names of these exotic mixed drinks will have patrons in the mood for a little sex and if it takes more than that to get them turned on, then those who dare to take a sip may very well find themselves hooked!
