THE VIBE OF any party will largely depend on the music being played. The tone is as important as the hotties that enter these events. That is why selectors must keep up with the demand of the patrons. Cash Money leader, Bryan 'Scratchy B' Clarke, said his sound system is right on the ball when it comes to giving the people what they want.

"We nuh just turn up and start playing. When we reach early, we try find out what the people like first." Scratchy B said.

On top of that, he tries to keep the variety going by always coming up with something different.

"People will always recognise us when they hear us. We don't have to play at Passa Passa or anywhere else. People have our mix on the street and know us, Scratchy B said."

Cash Money sways the way the wind blows by producing a new mix every three months.

Scratchy B said that while he has Vybz Kartel, Mavado, Busy Signal, among others as some of his favourite artistes, he recognises that he must also give other artistes enough air play. "I am not like Foota Hype, who only want to play a whole heap a Bounty songs. You have some artistes who want to tell you how to run yuh sound, but it can't work da way deh. Yuh have fi mix it up fi di people."

Scratchy B's first burst on to the scene came in 1994 when he linked up with Tweetie Bird who gave him an opportunity at Extreme Night Club. "It was just inna mi. You have to love it," he says. According to Scratchy B, money is not the biggest driving factor for what he does, instead it is the love he has for music.

He is joined by Marathon, Bumpy, Ice Tea and Shampoo to form one of Portmore's premiere and most notable sound. "To be on my sound you have to be able to mix and talk and have your own tune. And it is not for someone who have to learn."

Scratchie B, who once ruled Asylum on Mondays is now in search of a spot in Clarendon, St Ann or out west to take his sound. Cash Money is also going for the world-class appeal and has been to England, the United States and a few small islands in the Caribbean. Cash Money has the resources to play in three different locations per night.

"Anywhere wi play wi jus mash up de place," Scratchy B said.
