Paulette Williams $10,000 lighter

BY TASHIEKA MAIR, STAR Writer

AS THE JAMAICA Public Service Company (JPSCo) continues to clamp down on illegal connections, another person was brought before the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court for abstracting electricity.

Paulette Williams of Mount Carey, St. James, on Wednesday pleaded guilty to the charge and was fined $10,000 or three months in prison.

NOT THE ONE

Williams explained to the judge that she was not the person who had carried out the illegal connection and further explained that her family could not afford the cost of having the house accessed and passed to receive legal connection.

The police and a team from JPSCo were carrying out operations in the Mount Carey area on June 16 when they spotted an illegal connection leading to Ms. Williams' house. She told the team that she had legal connection but no metre was seen. She later confessed that she did not have legal connection.
