Spice in your life

SPICE - The STAR Artiste of the Month

The month of July is already special but THE STAR decided to add just a little bit more spice. Look out for a number of features including, Win-A-Day, Day In The Life, Spice Makeover, In The Kitchen, Online and Call-In, Sexiest Man contest and autograph signing. We kick things off today with Spice's bio just so you can get to know a little about her. For this month the fast-growing young artiste Spice will be gracing our pages.

SPICE BIO

SPICE, THE NEWEST bad gal of dancehall is seen as a hardcore individual in the eyes of the public. She, however, describes, herself as a moderate person, nice, caring, loving, and one who relates easily to others.

Born, Grace Latoya Hamilton on August 6, 1982, Spice grew up in Old Braeton, St. Catherine, where she attended Braeton Junior High School, and later St. Catherine High.

Her friends, in a group called 'Gilloteen', gave her the name Spice. Whenever she was not present with her team at a party, people would ask: "Where is the spicy one?" Spice would be the one to give the 'zing' to her group.

Spice praises Professor Nuts, who inspired her to get started in the music business four years ago, after which she started performing at local stage shows in her community. She also thanks Baby Cham, saying he is the reason she is still in the business.

Throughout her career, she has performed at various stage shows, both locally and overseas, the biggest of which was Sting 2005, where she received overwhelming applause and shouts of approval from the patrons.

She is currently signed with Madhouse Records, which she recognises as the best thing to ever happen to her. "Love the vibes, things going good," she said, adding that she "liked the feedback."

Her first single for Madhouse Records was Complain on the Pretty Pretty Rhythm which has done very well both locally and overseas. Other singles, Hype and Right There, have also created waves.

She has collaborated with artistes such as Jimmy Cliff and Pinchers.

She spends most of her time on the road, especially on the Fort Clarence and Hellshire beaches, where she enjoys relaxing and getting ideas for her hardcore lyrics, whether from past experiences, or just by interacting with her friends. Spice also has an interest in acting and swimming and she would love to be an actress one day. With her creativity, Spice is undoubtedly destined for stardom.
