No one is safe anymore

THE RECENT MURDER of talk show host and public relations practitioner Christine Hewiit, shocked the nation.

Partly because Hewitt was such a popular figure, and also because of the graphic nature of the murder. Hewitt's body was severely burnt and she was shot. Hewitt's murder adds another statistic to the number of women killed since the start of the year.

Recently also, the news that the bodies of two females found partially buried in a septic pit, jarred the nation into facing the reality that no one is safe. Sometime ago, women and children were safe from the exploits of gunmen. Armed men would usually spare women and children, sometimes sending them away before killing their male counterparts. These days, however, things are not the same. Even pregnant women are being killed and babies are also being brutally gunned down.

These murders seem to get more gruesome as time wears on, and one wonders what will happen next. The fact that some heartless individual would inflict several stab wounds on two innocent, defenceless women, and then proceed to dump their bodies in a pit, is very scary.

But what is cause for worry is that we are not sure who is committing these violent acts. There are several wolves in sheep's clothing living among us and we cannot be sure who to trust. We just never know.

The onus is now on us, especially women, to be very vigilant. One small decision could possibly cost our life. The best advice is to trust no one and be very careful.
