A MAN WHO was loading a bus, assaulted a woman after she attempted to leave the vehicle because she was waiting too long.
On June 21, Donette Robinson, 43, a domestic helper, was in a bus at the Manor Park bus stop when she saw other buses which were going to her destination. The man who was loading the bus, Phillip Wright, 26, unemployed, prevented her from leaving the bus. Robinson pushed him out of her way and he pushed back and pulled a ratchet knife. When the police arrived he ran into the bus but was eventually caught. He was arrested and charged with assaulting a female and possessing an offensive weapon.
Wright pleaded guilty to the charges in court on Tuesday, saying he told her that he had not finished loading the bus. He said he pushed her after she did the same but the police found the knife in his pocket after they searched him.
Resident Magistrate Desiree Alleyne ordered him to pay a fine of $30,000 or 60 days imprisonment hard labour for assaulting the female and $4,000 or 30 days imprisonment hard labour for possession of an offensive weapon. If the fines are not paid he will serve 90 days imprisonment. A fingerprint order was also made.
