TEENAGERS STEPHANIE TAYLOR and Kycia Knight have copped the Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards at the 2006 West Indies Women's Cricket Championship that ended Monday.
Taylor, the 15-year-old Jamaica opening bat, took the MVP award for the league championship, and the 14-year-old allrounder Knight captured the knockout MVP prize after helping Barbados secure their first ever title in regional women's cricket.
Barbados won the knockout title Monday with a seven-wicket triumph over St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), who had lifted the league title on Friday over Trinidad and Tobago on a tie-break, with Jamaica getting third.
Taylor, who scored 236 runs in the league championship, helped Jamaica to a three-game winning streak that placed them in line for the title until their final game loss to SVG.
The left-handed Taylor had two unbeaten half-centuries in the tournament - 70 not out (Barbados) and 82 not out (St Lucia) - and averaged an impressive 78.67.
Knight, a right-arm spinner, who bats left-handed, scored 68 runs in the knockout, including a match-winning unbeaten 51 in the final against SVG. She also picked up five wickets in three matches.
Jamaican spinner Sandra Clark and Trinidad and Tobago's West Indies pacer Kirbyina Alexander, shared the award for most wickets in the league with nine victims each.
