Feedback slow, but not easy to crack cases - cops

( TOP L - R ) Toni-Ann Thomas, Maurice Maxwell, Sasha-Kaye Brown

( BTM L - R ) Shauna-Kaye Legister, Oksana Douglas, Shanika Anderson, Shanika Shakes

AS PART OF the hunt for child killers, today THE STAR continues its series geared towards informing the public about the unsolved murders. A reward totalling $100,000 is being offered for the arrest and charge of the person or persons responsible for the death of our children. Call Crime Stop toll free at 1-888-991-4000. Full confidentiality will be maintained.

Crime Stop is reporting that it has so far only received calls in connection with the Shanika Anderson murder. But, although only getting responses in relation to Shanika's case, they were quick to point out that information for crimes such as these usually take time to come together.

"These crimes usually come to us after the police have exhausted all possible angles. That's when we take them so they usually take time," said Prudence Gentles coordinator for Crime Stop.

To date, THE STAR has published the names of nine children who were murdered between 2004 and 2005. The nine children - Jovaughn Williams, Oksana Douglas, Toni-Ann Thomas, Shanika Anderson, Nicholas Baker, Maurice Maxwell, Shaneka Shakes, Sasha-Kaye Brown and Shauna-Kaye Legister were killed under different circumstances.

THE STAR published the names of the nine children as part of its hunt for child killers campaign, offering a reward for the capture of the killers.

Gentles said for some of the deaths it would be difficult to catch the killers because of the nature of the murders.

"The ones that were killed in gang-related activity, it's going to be difficult to solve but we get very few successes. When we get a success it's a real success," she said.
