The STAR Artiste of the Month - 'Did You Know'

Mavado performing at Foota Hype's Birthday Bash at Lime Light Club Friday March 10. - HUGH STONE

HERE ARE SOME really interesting facts about The Star artiste of the month. Some you may already know, others I am sure will be news to you!

Did you know that:

1. Mavado was formerly known as Singing Blacks?

2. Mavado once worked as a barber before getting his break in the music business?

3. Deejay Bucanneer gave Mavado his first recording opportunity?

4. Mavado has worked with major producers such as Daseca, Donovan 'Don Corleon' Bennett, and Christopher Birch?

5. Mavado has recorded songs with Voicemail, Busy Signal and Vybz Kartel?

6. Mavado got his stage name from a watch? A friend of his, Flex gave him a watch with the word Movado marked on the inside. He liked the name and so when producer Mario C told him that his former stage name (Singing Blacks) sounded too normal, he decided to change his name to Mavado.

7. Most people still call him Movado instead of his rightful stage name, Mavado

8. It was in the church that Mavado was first given a microphone to sing

9. Mavado attended Charlie Smith Comprehensive High School

10. He shares the same manager as Busy Signal.
